There aren't many items on my "Things I don't like about Japan" list, but we can definitely add one today. We woke up to find a visitor had wandered into our house last night. You can't really tell from the picture, but Renee and I estimate he was about 16 inches long and weighed 44 pounds. Just kidding... but he was about the size of a half-dollar. Uck!
Being a good husband, I bravely let Renee capture and release him into the wild. We did get a picture of the eight-legged freak; if you want to see it, here's a link.

Holy Crap!!!!!! That is one scary ass spider! Yikes! Renee is my hero for capturing it and releasing it. I want to hear more about how she caught it!
By the way, does Chris actually do any work? Or do you guys just go on adventures all the time? ;-)
Yes, yes, Christine... I do a little. :)
Work for me is very similar to work in the U.S. My supervisor, other researchers, and administrators speak English (to me, anyway!), and I don't even notice I'm in a foreign country unless I have to leave the building for some reason. Hence, no real mention on the blog. But hey, if people want to hear about pro-p Galois groups and their geometric consequences, I'll gladly post some updates here...
Chris
Holy gods, that is one nasty spider! But I'm confused...cartoons had led me to believe that all Japanese animals were adorably cuddly and have big expressive brown eyes? WTF?
